Kirinyaga - the heart of Kenyan coffee
This AA fully washed lot comes from Kamwangi washing station, one of three stations of the New Ngariama FCS cooperative in the renowned Kirinyaga region. The cooperative brings together around 1,500 smallholder farmers, who often farm just a few acres, yet together achieve exceptional quality. The coffee here is grown at altitudes of up to 1,800m, in fertile volcanic soil and an ideal climate. The farmers grow the SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 varieties, which, thanks to their slow ripening, produce a bright, sweet and structured cup.
Gentle fermentation and precise processing
The fruits are hand-picked at full ripeness and processed using the traditional washed method directly at Kamwangi station. Careful fermentation, washing with clean river water and drying on raised beds guarantee a sparkling, clean and stable profile. Kamwangi coffees are characterized by strong acidity, fruity layers and elegant balance, which is typical of the best Kenyan coffees. This lot is a great testament to the careful work of the farmers and the unique terroir of Kirinyaga.
